One setting in the play that made me uneasy in Macbeth was when Macbeth had ordered murders to slaughter Macduff's family. The scene when Macduff's wife was in her home still confused about why her husband had fled Scotland and gone to England. Macbeth's son did not understand why his father was being accused of being a traitor. Additionally, they did not understand why they were being punished," Whither should I fly? I have done no harm. But I remember now I am in this earthly world, where to do harm Is often laudable, to do good sometime Accounted dangerous folly. Why then, alas,Do I put up that womanly defense, To say I have done no harm?" (IV.II) This scene made me especially uncomfortable because murdering Macduff's wife and family who were completely oblivious and innocent made me realize the extremity of Macbeth's desperate need to hold on to power.
