| The Three Witches |
Destiny played an important role in Macbeth's life. The concept of destiny was one of the major themes in this play. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth found out his destiny through the witches.
"All hail, Macbeth Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth Hail to thee, thou shall be King hereafter!" (1.3) They told him that he would become future king as well as thane of Glamis and thane of Cawdor. With the knowledge of his future in his hands, Macbeth decides to take action to claim the throne since he believes it is his destiny. If Macbeth had never known about his future in the beginning, he would've never expected to become the thane of Cawdor or the king. Once Macbeth becomes thane of Cawdor just like the witches predicted he gains confidence that he will also become king. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth come up with a plan to seize the throne unnaturally. Although the witches predictions about Macbeth's destiny lead to success and power, it eventually resulted in Macbeth's demise.
